April mobile number portability falls 10.4 percent from March
The number of mobile subscribers switching carriers in South Korea fell in April from the previous month, industry data showed. A total of 566,576 subscribers ported their numbers in April, down 65,891 from 632,467 in March, according to the Korea Telecommunication Operators Association. The number of subscribers porting to SK Telecom, KT and LG Uplus all declined from March. The drop was attributed to a fading boost from new handset launches and weaker demand after the new school term.

KTOA holds 9th AI Future Value Forum, seeks ways to strengthen AX competitiveness
The Korea Telecommunication Operators Association held its ninth AI Future Value Forum in Seoul on April 16 under the theme of policy proposals for AI infrastructure investment to strengthen global AI transformation competitiveness. The industry-academia-research body includes major telecom operators and experts from academia, law and research institutes. Presentations covered tax credit effects for AI data and data centre costs and insights from MWC 2026, followed by a panel discussion on policy support and telecom operators’ roles.

MSIT to conduct nationwide survey of internet equipment power use in apartment complexes
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT, the Korea Telecommunication Operators Association and the Korea Cable TV & Broadcasting Association will launch a nationwide survey into the use of shared electricity by internet equipment installed in apartment complexes. Internet service providers should in principle pay the common-area power bills, but some residents have borne the costs due to unclear responsibility. The ministry will set detailed plans including compensation and measures to prevent recurrence, with telecom and some cable operators participating.
