Webtoon anti-piracy group hails repatriation of illegal pirated comics site operator
A coalition of seven companies including Kakao Entertainment and Naver Webtoon welcomed the repatriation to South Korea of a suspect accused of operating an illegal pirated comics distribution site. The group thanked four government agencies, including the Culture Ministry and the prosecution and police, for sustained investigative and cooperation efforts. It called the repatriation meaningful progress in holding copyright infringements accountable and urged strict punishment and measures to prevent repeat offenses.

Financial sector overhauls security and consumer protection for AX era
As the financial sector accelerates an AI (AX) overhaul, digital risks such as hacking and voice phishing are emerging as key challenges. Financial authorities are moving to widen AI use by easing network separation rules, while calling for stronger internal controls and consumer protection to address security threats and increasingly sophisticated fraud. The Financial Services Commission held a meeting with major financial groups and related agencies to discuss responses, including upgrading a voice phishing AI platform.

Deepfake reports top 10,000 ahead of local elections, government steps up response
South Korea has received more than 10,000 requests to delete posts suspected of violating election rules by using deepfakes, a week before nationwide local elections. The Interior and Safety Ministry held an inter-agency working meeting on May 28 led by Vice Minister Kim Min-jae. Police said 921 people had been caught by May 27 for suspected black propaganda such as false or fake news. Authorities said they are working with regulators and the election commission on detection, deletion, complaints and investigations.
