MSIT seeks new high-performance computing centres to meet GPU demand
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT said on Wednesday it will designate additional specialised high-performance computing centres by sector. The ministry previously named seven institutions as specialised centres in 2022. It is moving to add more centres as demand for large-scale GPU-based computing resources rises alongside deeper integration of science, technology and AI. Applications are open until Oct. 12, with final selections in December and two-year operations beginning in January.

Ryu Je-myeong joins postal delivery site during heatwave, says safety and health come first
Ryu Je-myeong (류제명), second vice minister at South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT, visited Cheongju Post Office on Tuesday and joined postal workers delivering mail during a heatwave. He supported delivery work and checked on-site safety management. Ryu reviewed measures such as adjusting delivery volumes by heat alert level, use of the right to suspend delivery work, minimizing outdoor work from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., and emergency response for heat-related illness.

Hecto Innovation\'s Weatherdol launches local flood risk map
Hecto Innovation said on Tuesday its weather-based daily life support platform Weatherdol has launched a “local flood risk map” that lets users check heavy-rain data. The service shows flood risk around a user’s current location in five levels and calculates risk by combining the Interior and Safety Ministry platform’s disaster-risk zone grades with rainfall data. It also provides 12-hour rainfall forecasts by zone and offers linked real-time CCTV and in-house observation data.
