Korean mobile carriers near full QoS rollout, MVNO market on alert
South Korea plans to apply a data assurance option, or QoS, across the three mobile carriers’ rate plans in the first half, guaranteeing unlimited data at 400 Kbps after allowances are used. The policy aims to lower household telecom bills, the science ministry says. MVNO users would generally need to pay about 5,000 won a month for the QoS feature, prompting complaints of discrimination. MVNOs also face limited wholesale discounts and rising spectrum fees.
