Nobel physiology or medicine prize goes to 3 optogenetics pioneers
The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine was awarded to three U.S. and German scientists for pioneering optogenetics, a technique that uses light to control the activity of specific nerve cells. The Nobel Assembly at Sweden’s Karolinska Institute named Karl Deisseroth, Peter Hegemann and Georg Nagel as joint laureates. The winners will share the 12 million Swedish crowns prize. This year’s Nobel announcements continue with physics, chemistry, literature, peace and economics.
