Kakao Entertainment to merge KakaoPage and KakaoWebtoon this year, shifting to one platform
Kakao Entertainment said it will merge KakaoPage and KakaoWebtoon and reorganise its story business around a single platform centred on KakaoPage. The company plans to brief users of both services on Sept. 29 on the integration method and timeline and complete the platform merger within the year. The unified platform will combine content, user data and operations, including about 16,000 original story IPs, usage base and subscription patterns.

Kakao woos shareholders on spinoff, targets 1 trillion won AI revenue and 300 billion won buyback cancellation
Kakao is seeking to win over retail shareholders ahead of a planned corporate spinoff into continuing company KakaoX and new unit KakaoAI. KakaoAI aims to begin monetising AI services in 2027 and targets more than 1 trillion won in AI revenue by 2030. KakaoX plans to use gains from selling its stake in Dunamu to buy back and cancel 300 billion won of treasury shares over three years after the split.

KakaoX role shifts after spin-off as it seeks new growth engines
Kakao’s planned spin-off will separate KakaoTalk and AI operations from the remaining company, KakaoX, reshaping KakaoX into a future-value investment company. KakaoX will manage stakes in key affiliates and deploy about 6.4 trillion won in investment capacity to support existing units and invest in new businesses and innovative firms. It will focus on areas such as virtual assets, physical AI and global fandom, while returning part of investment gains to shareholders.
