Korea Exchange\'s Park Sang-wook elected to CCP Global executive committee
Korea Exchange said on June 25 that Park Sang-wook (박상욱), head of its clearing and settlement division, has been elected to the executive committee of the Global Association of Central Counterparties, known as CCP Global. Park was elected at CCP Global’s general meeting held on June 24 local time in Amsterdam. The association represents central counterparties that provide clearing and settlement services in capital markets.

Yoon Sun-jung (윤선중), a professor at Dongguk University, said Korea’s exchange-traded derivatives market faces structural limits and needs regulatory change, citing a sharp drop in trading after 2011 measures raised contract size, margin requirements and mandatory education for retail investors. He said trading shifted to overseas high-risk products and crypto markets. Yoon urged a shift from pre-emptive regulation to tighter monitoring and tougher penalties, easier listings for standardised products and stronger self-regulatory oversight.

Higher yields and FX gains drive funds into dollar parking products amid high won-dollar rate
Signs that the won-dollar exchange rate may stay elevated are pushing funds into dollar “parking” products that can offer both higher interest income and currency gains. Dollar-based money market fund exchange-traded funds are posting returns far above won-based MMF ETFs, drawing in idle cash. Assets in KODEX US Money Market Active have surged since listing. Investors are also buying SOFR-linked ETFs. Attention is turning to the dollar’s direction and the upcoming FOMC meeting.
