Moving fabs alone may not make South Korea\'s semiconductor relocation work, MPE ecosystem key
South Korea is pushing to disperse its semiconductor production base beyond the capital area, but simply moving fabs may deliver limited results, industry voices say. South Korea\'s battery supply chain is facing a test as the European Union\'s digital battery passport mandate approaches next year. Major cell makers have set up response systems, but many small materials suppliers lack IT systems and specialist staff to measure carbon emissions. Carbon data for the passport requires lifecycle assessment information from multiple tiers of suppliers. Industry groups say small and mid-sized firms lack expertise, budget and manpower, widening gaps with large companies.

Lam Research launches industry-academia-public program to train semiconductor talent
Lam Research has launched an industry-academia-public cooperation program in South Korea to train semiconductor process integration specialists. The U.S. chip equipment company is working with the Korea Semiconductor Industry Association and the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology. The course uses Lam Research\'s Semiverse Solutions simulation platform to provide virtual process training. It will run at least three times a year and aims to train about 100 people in its first year.
