South Korea to expand physical AI with AI-RAN; manufacturing trials to start in earnest
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT is applying intelligent base stations, known as AI-RAN, to shipbuilding, petrochemicals and automotive manufacturing sites to test physical AI services. The ministry visited HD Hyundai Samho\'s shipyard in Yeongam to inspect trials under its high-performance AI network programme. KT and SK Telecom-led consortia were selected to build high-performance AI networks at industrial sites and test AI robots and services.

NIA begins building \'Hyper AI Network\' for industrial sites with SKT, KT participation
South Korea\'s National Information Society Agency is working with mobile operators, manufacturers and AI companies to build a Hyper AI pilot network based on 5G standalone mode and AI-RAN technology. SK Telecom and KT will lead separate consortia to build AI-based next-generation networks at industrial sites and demonstrate physical AI services using robots. The 17.2 billion won project aims to verify network performance and support commercialisation of ultra-low latency, high-capacity services.

South Korea\'s mobility platform industry is expanding into autonomous driving by using data gathered from its own services as AI training assets. Socar plans to set up a standalone unit for autonomous driving services, with Krafton joining as a strategic investor. Kakao Mobility has declared a shift into a physical AI company and outlined technology plans based on Kakao T data. Autonomous A2Z is building mass-production systems through deals with automakers and parts makers.
