Amazon overhauls AI shopping, putting Alexa at core to integrate search, recommendations and ads
Amazon is ending its Rufus chatbot and making its Alexa assistant the core of its AI shopping strategy, CNBC reported. The company has launched an e-commerce bot called Alexa for Shopping that integrates Rufus and Alexa+. Amazon plans to use shoppers’ history and data for personalised assistance. The tool adds a chat window to search results, supports comparisons and auto-purchase at target prices, and can be used without Prime.

Generative AI chat windows are emerging as a new shopping battleground alongside search portals and open markets, as companies eye conversational commerce as a channel to drive traffic to their own online stores. Lotte Wellfood has launched a dedicated app for “Apps in ChatGPT,” enabling questions and answers in the ChatGPT chat window. Cafe24 has also released an app linking multiple partner brands. The industry is focusing on purchase links that route users to brand sites to expand traffic and data.

Shinsegae Group kicks off two-track AI strategy with agents and infrastructure
Shinsegae Group is sharpening its AI strategy with global partners, pursuing two tracks in agents and infrastructure. It signed an MOU with OpenAI to build a ChatGPT-based shopping agent in the E-Mart app and to link Shinsegae products to ChatGPT shopping, aiming for a full AI commerce system by 2027. Separately, it signed an MOU with U.S. firm ReflectionAI to build a 250-MW AI data centre in Korea.
