Amazon warehouse robots top 1 million as company expands production and deployment
Amazon now operates more than 1 million warehouse robots and plans to expand robot production and deployment, including new facilities in Austin, Texas, and Greenwood, Indiana. The company says robots take on injury-prone tasks, but labor groups and researchers warn automation can raise work intensity. A study found fewer severe injuries at robot sites but more minor repetitive-motion injuries. Amazon says safety rates have improved since 2019 and maintenance hiring has grown.
