Beyond 3D sound, Samsung and Google push future audio technology for height and distance
Eclipsa Audio, a 3D spatial sound technology co-developed by Google and Samsung Electronics, is expanding from YouTube and smart TVs into content production tools. It aims to reproduce sound with left-right, front-back, height and distance cues. The technology is based on the IAMF specification released in 2023 by AOMedia. It supports multiple channel formats and Ambisonics, works with codecs such as Opus and AAC, and requires compatible playback devices or software.
