Ethereum\'s next major network upgrade, Glamsterdam, has been pushed back to the fourth quarter of 2026. Developers have launched a new public testnet, Plåtåberget, for the upgrade and have begun narrowing the scope of the follow-up upgrade, Hegotá, with a 2027 launch in mind. The timeline shift comes after earlier expectations for Glamsterdam in the first half of 2026 and Hegotá in the second half.

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin (비탈릭 부테린) said he released a revised version of his 2023 Ethereum roadmap and raised the priority of quantum safety. He overlaid the earlier roadmap on the Ethereum Foundation’s latest layer-1 Strawmap to show items that remained and those whose priority changed. The Strawmap lays out upgrades across consensus, data and execution layers and sets five end goals, including a post-quantum L1. Buterin also proposed EIP-8288 in June 2026, and the foundation formed a post-quantum security team targeting 2029.
