KakaoMap shows real-time coastal ferry locations, applies to 99 routes
KakaoMap users can now check real-time locations of coastal passenger ferries nationwide. Kakao said on Sept. 15 it applied a “high-precision ferry” service to KakaoMap, covering 99 coastal routes operating from 306 passenger terminals. Users can zoom in on routes to see vessel positions and view navigation-mode details such as time remaining, speed and destination. The service links ferry traffic data held by the Korea Maritime Transportation Safety Authority.

Bang Jun-hyuk to buy 13.4 percent stake in Netmarble for 374 billion won
Netmarble’s controlling shareholder will strengthen his grip after chairman Bang Jun-hyuk (방준혁) agrees to buy a 13.4 percent stake for 374 billion won. Netmarble said in a regulatory filing on Thursday that the shares will be acquired from Tencent affiliate Han River Investment, which holds 18.1 percent of the company. After the transaction, Bang’s stake will rise from 24.93 percent to 38.34 percent. Netmarble said business cooperation with Tencent will continue.

Semiconductor fab buildout accelerates, power grid supply a variable
Semiconductor makers are moving up fab construction schedules in Yongin, but power grid and water supply plans are not keeping pace. Samsung Electronics targets 2029 for its first fab at the Yongin national industrial complex, while SK Hynix plans to open a cleanroom for its first fab in early 2027. The government has brought forward the final power supply date to 2042, and current supply is about 1.9 gigawatts.
