LG Electronics signs deal to build used refrigerant recycling, refurbished product system
LG Electronics will recover and recycle used refrigerants generated from home appliances and move ahead with a pilot for its refurbished products business. The company said it signed an agreement in Seoul with the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment and the Korea Environment Corporation, among others. LG Electronics plans to raise annual refrigerant recovery to 81 tonnes by 2030 and use purified recycled refrigerant for new products and after-sales service.

Korean AI chips speed up mass production, commercialisation as MSIT holds growth forum
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT held the K-AI Semiconductor Growth Forum in Seoul on June 4 to share results from domestic AI chip development and discuss growth strategies. About 300 people attended, including government, parliament and industry representatives. The forum presented pilot project cases and export-linked examples, and disclosed progress on the K-Perf performance benchmark. The ministry also outlined plans to expand standards, enhance testing and open a technical support centre in the first half.

National AI strategy committee checks physical AI manufacturing sites in Changwon
South Korea’s National Artificial Intelligence Strategy Committee visited Changwon to review how AI is being applied at manufacturing sites and to check progress on regional AI transformation projects based on physical AI. The committee inspected AI and digital twin operations at LG Electronics’ Changwon smart factory and discussed data sharing and AI talent training with companies at Changwon National University. It also reviewed LAM-based development work at Gyeongnam Technopark.
