New York state lawmakers have introduced a bill to ban construction of new data centres for three years, TechCrunch reported on Feb. 7. The move follows growing concern about the impact of rapidly expanding AI infrastructure on local communities. Similar legislation is under discussion in states including Georgia, Vermont and Virginia, and Republican lawmakers are pursuing comparable curbs in Maryland and Oklahoma, TechCrunch said.
