PIPC fines Interior Ministry, Rural Development Administration over personal data leaks
South Korea\'s Personal Information Protection Commission decided on May 27 to impose fines and penalties on four public institutions and one contractor for violating the Personal Information Protection Act. The Ministry of the Interior and Safety was sanctioned over multiple leak incidents tied to Government24 services and delayed notification. The Rural Development Administration and affiliated bodies were penalised after a hacker stole about 575,000 records from a contractor’s NAS and posted them on the dark web.

PIPC fines interior ministry 270 million won over Government24 personal data leak
South Korea\'s Personal Information Protection Commission imposed penalties on the Ministry of the Interior and Safety over personal data leaks on the Government24 portal. The ministry was fined 273 million won and given an additional 7.5 million won administrative fine. The commission cited a development error that exposed data of 1,233 people, a weakness in an ID issuance-status inquiry service and other cases, including delayed reporting of the leak.
