U.S. after 2008 crisis: GDP rises while carbon emissions fall
An analysis said the decoupling of U.S. economic growth and carbon emissions became clearer after the 2008 financial crisis. Comparing World Bank GDP data with Global Carbon Project figures for fossil fuel and industrial CO2 emissions, it said the long-term trends diverged around 2008. Emissions fell over the long term while real GDP kept rising except during the pandemic. It added emissions remain high and cited future risks such as data centres.
