Francis Halzen wins 2026 Nobel physics prize for neutrino observations, sole laureate after 34 years
The 2026 Nobel Prize in Physics went to Belgian-born U.S. physicist Francis Halzen for opening a new path in cosmic research through neutrino observations. The Swedish Academy of Sciences’ Nobel committee cited his decisive contributions to the IceCube Neutrino Observatory and the discovery of high-energy neutrinos of astrophysical origin. Halzen is the sole laureate, the first solo physics winner in 34 years.
