OpenAI ends Sora video AI service, completes training of next-generation Spud model
OpenAI has abruptly ended its AI video-generation service Sora, scrapping the app and API, a plan to integrate it with ChatGPT and a $1 billion partnership it had been pursuing with Disney. The Disney arrangement was reportedly only a verbal understanding. The Sora team will shift toward world simulation for long-term robotics research. OpenAI plans to combine the ChatGPT app, the Codex coding platform and the Atlas browser into a single desktop “super app,” the Wall Street Journal reported. The move is aimed at simplifying user experience and strengthening its push for enterprise and developer customers. The shift is being led by head of applications Fidji Simo. OpenAI plans to add new agent features to Codex and then integrate ChatGPT and Atlas, while keeping the mobile ChatGPT app unchanged.

OpenAI to wind down side projects, focus on B2B and coding
OpenAI is reshaping its strategy to focus on coding and enterprise customers after concluding its attempt to offer “everything at once” diluted its focus, the Wall Street Journal reported. OpenAI Applications CEO Fidji Simo told staff the company must not get distracted by side projects and should secure productivity, especially in the enterprise segment. CEO Sam Altman and chief research officer Mark Chen are reviewing lower-priority areas and plan to share details with employees within weeks.
