Study questions need for 12-hour fasting before blood tests
A study found that the common practice of fasting for 8 to 12 hours before blood tests may not be necessary for most test items. A Korean research team analysed about 9.76 million test results from 101,148 adult patients at a university hospital and compared results by fasting duration. Only some measures, including blood glucose and triglycerides, showed meaningful differences, and researchers called for fasting guidance to vary by test item.

PsiQuantum presses ahead with photon-based large-scale quantum computer
Quantum computing company PsiQuantum is accelerating efforts to build a large-scale quantum computer using photons. It is pursuing an approach that makes chips in existing semiconductor production facilities and connects about 100 cooling cabinets to implement a practical-scale system. Founded in 2016 by four physicists from British universities, the company has raised $1 billion and begun work on a Chicago hub, while preparing a second hub in Australia.

Seoul National University professor Roh Seong-hoon wins July Korea Science and Technology Award
Roh Seong-hoon (노성훈), a professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Seoul National University, was selected as the July recipient of South Korea\'s Science and Technology Award, the Ministry of Science and ICT and the National Research Foundation of Korea said on Tuesday. Roh identified how a \"chaperone regulator\" regenerates the cytoskeleton by selecting, assembling and recycling tubulin. He used cryo-electron microscopy to analyse tubulin-chaperone binding at atomic level.
