G7 urges rapid preparations for quantum computing threat; bitcoin, ethereum also on alert

A G7 cybersecurity working group urged governments and companies to immediately begin shifting to post-quantum cryptography, warning that technology threatening existing public-key systems is advancing faster than expected. Banks and regulators launch quantum-resistant crypto project

Responsible Finance Institute (RFI) and crypto custody infrastructure firm Safeheron have launched a pilot project to test a quantum-resistant cryptocurrency wallet and on-chain transfer infrastructure, Cointelegraph reported. Banks and financial regulators from Europe, the Middle East and Asia are participating. The project uses an MPC protocol supporting NIST’s ML-DSA-65 standard on a quantum-resistant NEAR testnet. RFI said regulators including ADGM, GFSO and MFSA have confirmed participation.

First signs of quantum attack may look like ordinary wallet breach, analysis warns

An analysis warned that even if quantum computers become powerful enough to break today’s cryptography, the first signs in crypto markets may not be a high-profile theft such as Satoshi Nakamoto’s bitcoin. It said early attacks could resemble ordinary wallet compromises, with little or no forensic trail. Experts cited risks to stablecoin issuer keys and exchange hot wallets.
