Amazon, Lockheed Martin alumni team up on Egret autonomous cargo drone nearing U.S. tests
A large autonomous drone capable of carrying up to 1.8 tonnes of cargo without a cockpit is being developed in the United States. Poseidon Aerospace is building the Egret unmanned freighter, designed from the outset for cargo operations rather than converted from a manned aircraft. Early tests can be remotely piloted from a ground control center. The company plans a first unmanned test flight in Oregon by year-end and has raised $60 million in a Series A round led by TQ Ventures.
