Stanford AI Index to correct South Korea\'s notable model count to 8
South Korea’s tally of notable AI models released in 2025 in Stanford University’s AI Index 2026 report will be corrected to 8 from 5, the Ministry of Science and ICT said on Wednesday. The ministry said Stanford’s Human-Centered AI Institute omitted some models and would make the correction after the ministry requested additional verification. The revised list includes models from Upstage, LG AI Research, NC AI, SK Telecom and Naver Cloud.

LG Uplus joins hands with FuriosaAI to develop AI appliance
LG Uplus said on Sunday it will work with domestic AI semiconductor company FuriosaAI to develop a “sovereign AI appliance” that can be used securely inside companies. The two signed an MOU at MWC26 in Barcelona. The device will process data only on-premise, combining LG Uplus’ enterprise AI platform, LG AI Research’s EXAONE 4.0 model and FuriosaAI’s NPU. They also plan to expand cooperation to NPUaaS and physical AI.

LG AI Research says K-EXAONE proprietary AI model tops benchmark
LG AI Research on Jan. 11 unveiled its proprietary AI foundation model K-EXAONE, saying it consolidates five years of foundation model technology and reduces memory and compute needs by 70 percent versus EXAONE 4.0. LG said K-EXAONE scored 72 points on average across 13 benchmarks in the first round of a government project evaluation and posted 97.83 points on KGC-SAFETY. It will offer the K-EXAONE API free until Jan. 28.
