In Stanford University's "AI Index 2026" report, the number of South Korea's "notable AI models" released in 2025 is set to be corrected to 8 from 5.
The Ministry of Science and ICT said on April 23 there were omissions in Stanford's Human-Centered AI Institute (HAI) report released on April 13. It said the correction would be made after it requested additional verification.
The 8 models set to be reflected in the correction are Upstage's "Solar Open 100B"; LG AI Research's "K-EXAONE," "EXAONE 4.0 (32B)," "EXAONE Path 2.0" and "EXAONE Deep (32B)"; NC AI's "VARCO"; SK Telecom's "A.X K1"; and Naver Cloud's "HyperCLOVA X SEED 32B Sync." Among them, 5 models are the results of a homegrown AI foundation model project pursued by the government.
The ministry assessed that the correction shows the performance of South Korean AI models is being recognized in earnest at the global level.
Stanford HAI publishes an "AI Index Report" each year that comprehensively analyzes global AI development. This year's report was released on April 13.
