Digg cuts staff, shuts app after losing war against AI spam

Digg, once a popular link-sharing site, has carried out mass layoffs and is shutting down its app, TechCrunch reported on March 13. The company is not closing, and co-founder Kevin Rose said he plans to refocus on running Digg while keeping an adviser role at Tru Ventures. Digg said it struggled with AI bots and spam, and with competition from existing community platforms.

Reddit shares plunge 42 percent in past five weeks

Community platform Reddit\'s shares have plunged more than 40 percent in early 2026. The Information attributed the slide to stalled user growth in the United States, a slowdown in advertising revenue and declining reliance on Reddit data by AI models. Reddit\'s daily logged-in users in the United States hovered around 23 million in 2025. Concerns also rose as key executives sold stakes and competition intensified from TikTok, Snap and a relaunched Digg.
