Rising AI token costs boost role of desktop PCs
As companies respond to rising cloud costs and concerns over data sovereignty by adjusting where AI computing is done, business PCs are drawing attention as endpoints for local inference. Dell Technologies said the spread of agentic AI is changing the role and criteria for AI PCs. Dell cited token costs as a key driver, saying agentic workflows can quickly raise cloud API costs. Executive Rob Bruckner said inference often does not require top-tier performance and AI PCs can help firms control token budgets.

Dell says tokenomics is key in AI era, urges infrastructure redesign amid token surge
Dell Technologies presented tokenomics as a key variable in corporate infrastructure strategy for the AI era, citing a surge in token use as agentic AI spreads. It urged companies to design in detail which tasks run on which models and where they are executed. Jeff Clarke said the issue is not whether token use rises but whether workloads run on the right infrastructure. Dell also highlighted data infrastructure and introduced its Dell AI Data Platform.
