Rising AI token costs boost role of desktop PCs

As companies respond to rising cloud costs and concerns over data sovereignty by adjusting where AI computing is done, business PCs are drawing attention as endpoints for local inference. Dell Technologies said the spread of agentic AI is changing the role and criteria for AI PCs. Dell cited token costs as a key driver, saying agentic workflows can quickly raise cloud API costs. Dell Technologies presented tokenomics as a key variable in corporate infrastructure strategy for the AI era, citing a surge in token use as agentic AI spreads. Dell Technologies unveiled a wide range of new products aimed at data centre modernisation as artificial intelligence adoption accelerates. Announced at Dell Technologies World 2026 in Las Vegas, the updates span storage, servers, security and automation to support AI workloads. Dell introduced the PowerStore Elite storage platform and expanded its 18th-generation PowerEdge server portfolio. It also launched new cyber-resilience offerings and updated private cloud and automation software.
