IBM says quantum computers could handle calculations even billions of supercomputers cannot
An IBM research executive said that once quantum computers reach practical use, they will be able to perform calculations that cannot be handled even by connecting huge numbers of conventional supercomputers. He said quantum computing scales differently, with performance growing exponentially as qubits increase. IBM said hardware advances alone are not enough and researchers must define which problems to solve. Companies are already offering cloud access, and carmakers are testing battery simulations.
