Cyworld to relaunch with October beta as Sigmachain seeks to restore 17 billion records
Cyworld will resume service starting with a beta launch in October. Its new operator, blockchain technology company Sigmachain, said it has acquired Cyworld-related intellectual property, trademarks and user data, and will prioritise restoring about 17 billion existing user records. The company plans to stabilise the service and launch a full version in the first half of 2027. It is also reviewing revenue models using NFTs and stablecoins, while legal disputes remain a potential variable.

Muhayu hires Kyungsoo Kim as CPO
Natural-language understanding AI company Muhayu said on Monday it has hired Kyungsoo Kim as chief product officer. Kim studied philosophy at Seoul National University and earned a master’s degree in cognitive science. He worked at SK Communications on platform planning and operations for the NateOn messenger app and the Cyworld social network. Muhayu said it will pursue an “explaining AI” brand to clarify the basis for AI decisions and strengthen trust ahead of the AI Basic Act.

Coupang data leak probe stalls amid suspicion of ex-Chinese employee
A Coupang data leak involving about 33.7 million accounts is gaining traction as a suspected internal breach by a former Chinese national employee. Police have begun an investigation but face obstacles as the person has reportedly left South Korea. Coupang says no external intrusion was detected and that the breach began in June. The government has launched a joint probe, and regulators are reviewing possible violations of personal data protection rules.
