OpenAI unveils GPT-5.5, a step closer to an AI super app
OpenAI unveiled its new AI model, GPT-5.5, and began rolling it out to paying ChatGPT users. The company described it as its smartest and most intuitive model, saying it can reason faster and more precisely with fewer tokens than GPT-5.4. OpenAI also called it progress toward an AI super app that could combine ChatGPT, Codex and an AI browser. It said GPT-5.5 scored higher than prior and rival models on benchmarks.

Augment Code unveils semantic coding for AI agents
Augment Code has introduced a “model context protocol” for AI agents and platforms, SiliconANGLE reported on Feb. 6. The company said the update lets AI understand codebases through semantic analysis rather than simple keyword search, improving accuracy. In its own benchmarks, it said performance improved by more than 70 percent when combined with Claude Code, Cursor and Codex. It also said its context engine improved code quality by 30 to 80 percent.

Alibaba unveils Qwen3-Max-Thinking reasoning model, highlights two technology innovations
Alibaba Group unveiled its latest reasoning model, Qwen3-Max-Thinking, on Jan. 28. The company said it expanded the model to more than 1 trillion parameters for reinforcement learning, improving performance in factual knowledge processing, complex reasoning, instruction following, human preference alignment and agent functions. Alibaba said the model showed competitive performance across 19 major benchmarks versus models including Claude Opus 4.5, Gemini 3 Pro and GPT-5.2-Thinking-xhigh, and highlighted adaptive tool-use and test-time scaling.
