Can bitcoin respond to the quantum computing threat?
As quantum computing approaches, how quickly blockchain networks can adapt is emerging as a key challenge. Quantum computers could theoretically break digital signatures and encrypted communications, posing a serious threat to blockchain security. Post-quantum cryptography is already being adopted, and the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology has directed federal systems to complete a quantum-security transition by 2035. Permissioned blockchains may respond faster, while public chains such as bitcoin and ethereum must navigate community-driven proposal processes and user adoption.

He said bitcoin was weakening despite a macro environment generally supportive of risk assets, and attributed the drop mainly to profit-taking after an unusually long rally. He also cited quantum-computing worries but said they were not yet a practical threat.

Cathie Wood calls bitcoin essential asset for portfolio diversification

Ark data show bitcoin’s correlation with stocks, bonds and gold has weakened since 2020. Wood has forecast bitcoin could reach $1.5 million by 2030. Other market participants offered differing allocation views, including recommendations for reduced bitcoin exposure and increased allocations.
