A solo bitcoin miner secured a reward worth about $200,000 by mining a single block alone, showing that individual miners can still land large payouts. The miner generated bitcoin block 960804 and received 3.15689830 BTC, combining a 3.125 BTC block reward and 0.032 BTC in transaction fees. The CKPool operator said the miner appeared to use sharply fluctuating, possibly rented hashrate that may have risen to 100PH.

A rare case has emerged of a miner successfully mining a Bitcoin block on the network using very small equipment. The solo miner overcame odds described as about a once-in-300-years event and received about 3.128 BTC in rewards. The miner used CKPool’s solo mining software to mine block 944,306, collecting a 3.125 BTC subsidy plus 0.003 BTC in fees, worth about $220,000.

A small solo bitcoin miner with about 230 terahash per second solved block 943,411 despite odds of about 1 in 28,000 per day, earning about $210,000. The miner received 3.139 bitcoin, including a 3.125 BTC subsidy and 0.014 BTC in fees, via the solo.ckpool.org pool. CKpool developer Con Kolivas said it was the pool’s 312th solo block. Large miners have been selling bitcoin holdings in the first quarter.
