Media integration law talks revived in South Korea
South Korea has reignited debate over a comprehensive media integration law as the Broadcasting Media Integration Commission begins work. An expert meeting discussed the need for an integrated legal framework amid rapid changes including OTT and ad-supported free streaming. Existing rules, rooted in a 2000 overhaul for terrestrial and cable TV, have been blamed for regulatory blind spots and fairness disputes. Past legislative efforts have failed, and lawmakers are expected to hold a public hearing on Jan. 26.
