Broadcast media watchdog requests corrections for 625 cases of malicious hate, discrimination on social media
South Korea\'s Broadcast Media Communications Deliberation Committee said on Monday it will begin focused monitoring of hate, ridicule and discriminatory content spreading on social media in short-form videos and memes. The move follows concerns that such expressions are rapidly amplified by platform recommendation algorithms and could negatively affect teenagers’ values. The committee said it has requested corrective measures, including deletion and access blocking, for 625 cases since April.

Overseas short-form drama platforms fall into youth protection blind spot, regulator says it will improve surveys
South Korea\'s short-form drama market is growing rapidly, but overseas operators are falling outside youth protection requirements, a lawmaker said. Lee Jung-heon (이정헌) urged improvements to the youth protection framework, warning regulation must not focus only on domestic firms. He said the regulator\'s Android-focused panel surveys and use of monthly users could exclude overseas companies. Officials pledged closer monitoring, focused reviews and changes to survey methods in cooperation with related agencies.

Ko Kwang-heon nominee vows to restore consensus at media and communications watchdog
Ko Kwang-heon (고광헌), nominee to lead the Broadcast Media Communications Deliberation Committee, said he would revive the spirit of consensus and build a panel focused on communication. He said sanctions issued under former chief Ryu Hee-rim resulted in 30 straight court defeats because a minority made decisions after selecting agendas arbitrarily. Ko also pledged to address about 170,000 pending telecommunications cases and listed operating principles including minimal regulation and zero tolerance for digital sex crimes.
