Airbnb adds hotels and rental cars, says it could become the Amazon of travel
Airbnb is expanding beyond its lodging-focused business by adding hotels, rental cars, grocery delivery and luggage storage to its app. CNBC reported that the company has brought independent hotels onto the platform and has begun supporting boutique hotel bookings. CEO Brian Chesky said Airbnb could eventually become a platform spanning travel and everyday life, with dozens or even hundreds of categories. The company offers up to 15 percent in platform credits for boutique hotel bookings.

Airbnb CEO says no AI yet fit for e-commerce, points to four chatbot problems
Airbnb disclosed its AI use on its first-quarter earnings conference call, saying 60 percent of code written by engineers is generated by AI. CEO Brian Chesky said AI bots handle 40 percent of customer support inquiries without connecting to human agents, up from 33 percent earlier this year. He said AI is useful for building tools for external API partners but said no one has completed AI suited to travel or e-commerce, citing four chatbot limitations.

Anthropic staff publicly challenge CEO in Slack culture
Anthropic is reported to foster a culture in which employees openly raise differences of opinion and debate even comments by CEO Dario Amodei on the internal messenger Slack. Growth chief Amol Abassare said on a podcast that staff are encouraged to argue with Amodei. Employees use open “notebook” channels like an X feed to share what they are working on and thinking about, and disputes can prompt companywide discussion.
