Airbnb is adding hotels, rental cars, grocery delivery and luggage storage to its app, expanding from a lodging booking-focused business into broader travel services.
CNBC reported on Tuesday that Airbnb, after listing independent hotels on its platform, has also begun supporting boutique hotel bookings.
Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky (브라이언 체스키) said Airbnb could eventually become a platform spanning travel and everyday life. "Someday, with dozens, or as many as hundreds, of categories, we can build a structure similar to Amazon in travel and living," he said.
Airbnb offers boutique hotel booking users up to 15 percent back in platform credits. Chesky said the expansion is aimed at meeting growing demand for services in the highly fragmented travel and living market. He said activity equipment rentals such as surfing and skiing and gym passes are also being considered for addition.
