Balancer confirms protocol shutdown, withdrawals only from late October
The Balancer community has approved a proposal to end operations of the DeFi protocol and proceed with an orderly wind-down. The proposal, BIP-928, passed, while a separate plan to continue the protocol via a fork, BIP-929, failed. Existing pools will operate normally until Oct. 30, when eligible pools will shift to withdrawals only. The bug bounty programme ends the same day, and V3 vaults stop on Nov. 30.

World Chain to add EIP-7928 BAL on mainnet on Aug 17, support up to 1 gigagas per second
Ethereum layer-2 network World Chain, co-founded by Sam Altman, said it will become the first commercial layer-2 blockchain to stream EIP-7928 Block Access Lists within Flashblocks. The feature will be introduced on its mainnet on Aug. 17. Flashblocks, developed by expanding Flashbots’ Rollup Boost technology for the OP Stack, releases partial block data about every 200 milliseconds. The upgrade aims to enable parallel validation and target throughput of up to 1 gigagas per second.

Ethereum developers top 1 million, quantum resilience and L2 integration seen as next tasks
The cumulative number of contributing developers in the Ethereum ecosystem has exceeded 1 million, reaching 1,012,824, with about 232,000 active over the past 12 months. Joseph Chalom, CEO of Nasdaq-listed SharpLink Gaming, said no other blockchain ecosystem has reached that scale. He cited Electric Capital data and highlighted upcoming priorities including the 2026 hard fork “Glamsterdam”, cross-rollup synchronous composability and post-quantum security efforts targeting a transition around 2029.
