Kakao Games to launch \'ArcheAge S\' globally in 2027 Q2

Kakao Games will launch XL Games\' PC massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) \"ArcheAge S: The Strait of Freedom\" in global markets in the second quarter of 2027. The company on Sept. 7 unveiled the game\'s official brand identity and key visual, and said global service will be offered mainly through Steam. Producer Kim Kyung-tae will oversee development, carrying over the original\'s worldview while rebuilding content and systems.

Kakao Games is reorganising non-core businesses under a new co-CEO structure and concentrating on launching five new titles. The company reported second-quarter revenue of 75 billion won and an operating loss of 23 billion won, with revenue down year-on-year and quarter-on-quarter. It sees sales bottoming in the second and third quarters, expects a meaningful rebound from the fourth quarter, and aims to turn profitable in the first quarter of next year.

KakaoGames posts Q2 operating loss of 23 billion won, seeks rebound by expanding lineup

KakaoGames said on Tuesday it posted an operating loss of 23 billion won in the second quarter, citing stabilising revenue from existing live titles and a lack of new releases. Revenue fell about 35 percent from a year earlier to 75 billion won. The company plans a third-quarter management reshuffle and business overhaul, and will start pre-registrations in August for the mobile MMORPG “Dokkaebi’s World” ahead of an October launch.
