Kakao Games has restructured its wage system by implementing a non-inclusive wage scheme from this month.

The industry said on Wednesday that Kakao Games scrapped its previous system requiring prior agreement for extended work hours, known as a fixed overtime scheme, on April 1 through a wage bargaining agreement between labour and management and introduced the non-inclusive wage scheme.

Under the previous system, allowances were paid only when extended work exceeded the hours agreed in advance. After the switch, overtime, night and holiday work allowances are not included in annual salary in advance. They will be calculated and paid separately by applying legally mandated premium rates to actual overtime hours worked.

Kakao Games has steadily worked to improve the working environment. It introduced a "Nolgeum" day off once a month in 2018 and expanded it to every other week from 2021. It also operates a system allowing employees to start work 30 minutes later on Mondays and leave 1 hour 30 minutes early on Fridays.

It also maintains the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family's family-friendly certification and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's leisure-friendly certification. It was also selected as a "2024 South Korea work-life balance excellent company" led by the Ministry of Employment and Labor and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

Kakao Games is preparing a new lineup including "OdinQ" and "ArcheAge Chronicle".
