Kakao Entertainment publishes anti-piracy white paper, unveils Darkchaser
Kakao Entertainment on Aug. 27 published its ninth white paper on responding to illegal distribution, unveiling Darkchaser, its in-house copyright protection system. The company said Darkchaser integrates the infringement response process, including detection, reporting, confirmation of results and domain tracking. It monitors about 16,000 webtoon and web novel IPs globally around the clock. Kakao Entertainment said blocked illegal content rose 24.8 percent in the first half of this year.

Naver Webtoon shuts 3 illegal webtoon sites in international operation, operators arrested
Naver Webtoon said on Aug. 13 it shut down three global English-language illegal webtoon and comics distribution sites and arrested their operators through international cooperation with South Korea\'s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Interpol and law enforcement agencies in North Africa. The sites targeted users in the United States and Europe, offering about 300 Naver Webtoon works via unauthorized scanning and translation.

Naver Webtoon blocks illegal leaks in advance with Toon Radar, paid spending up 23 percent
Naver Webtoon said on Tuesday that paid spending on major titles rose by an average 23 percent through Toon Radar, its system to block illegal distribution. A report on first-quarter 2026 results showed the number of works leaked to illegal sites within 24 hours of release on its Korean-language service fell 90 percent by the end of the quarter versus the start of the year. Some titles recorded a 60 percent increase.
