France calls for DeFi connection platforms to be held accountable for security lapses
France has called for crypto platforms that connect customers to DeFi protocols to be held accountable for incidents if they actively facilitate access, in proposals submitted as part of a review of the EU’s MiCA rules. The authorities proposed mandatory checks before linking to DeFi and ongoing monitoring for suspicious activity, and backed protocol and smart contract certification. They also renewed calls to shift CASP supervision to ESMA and to adjust thresholds for major operators.

The European Union\'s temporary grace period under the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) rules ends on July 1, raising the likelihood that users of unlicensed exchanges, brokers and wallet services will face account blocks and withdrawal instructions. MiCA requires formal authorisation for firms serving EU clients, but only 194 entities had approvals across the bloc as of May 2026. Regulators, including France\'s AMF, are warning firms to halt operations without licences.

France moves to clear out unlicensed crypto firms as MiCA deadline nears
Crypto companies operating in France without authorisation may have to stop local business if they fail to secure a Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) licence by June 30, local time. The French financial markets regulator AMF has demanded that firms lacking approval by the deadline begin procedures to leave France or shut down. AMF head Marie-Anne Barbat-Layani said firms must prepare wind-down plans to transfer customers and settle assets and services.
