Bamituui publishes first telecommunications law interpretation guide for AI service providers
South Korea\'s Broadcasting, Media and Telecommunications Commission on Jan. 20 released its first guide analyzing telecommunications-related laws for AI service providers to ease legal uncertainty stemming from rapid AI development. The guide reviews user protection clauses in the Telecommunications Business Act and the Information and Communications Network Act, including prohibited acts, compensation provisions and rules on illegal and harmful content. It also suggests policy improvement directions and aims to boost regulatory predictability and user trust.

South Korea government asks X to add youth safeguards to Grok AI chatbot
South Korea’s Broadcast Media Communications Commission said it has notified X to establish and respond with youth protection measures for its Grok AI chatbot, citing the spread of sexual exploitation material and non-consensual sexual images on social media. The regulator requested safeguards to prevent illegal acts, including limits and management measures on youth access. It also sought additional data on Grok and stressed that making, distributing, possessing or viewing fabricated sexual videos without consent is criminally punishable in South Korea.
