MWC26 highlights science ministry\'s struggle
A South Korean science ministry official at MWC26 in Barcelona said he wished he had worn a hanbok to better promote the Ministry of Science and ICT and Korea. The event was the first MWC since a new government took office, but Deputy Prime Minister and minister Bae Kyung-hoon did not attend after accompanying the president on state visits. Officials led by Choi Woo-hyuk pursued telecom and AI discussions and acted as a messenger between smaller and larger firms.

AI Network Alliance launches with 34 companies from telecoms, manufacturing and big tech
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT has officially launched the AI Network Alliance (AINA), a public-private consultative body aimed at securing leadership in next-generation AI network industries. The launch ceremony was held at MWC 2026 in Barcelona, with 34 companies and institutions participating, including KT, SK Telecom and LG Uplus, as well as Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, Amazon Web Services, Ericsson and Nokia. The alliance targets a 20 percent market share by 2030.

NIA holds briefing on AI network project
South Korea\'s National Information Society Agency and the Ministry of Science and ICT held a joint briefing on Wednesday at the agency\'s Seoul office on their 2026 artificial intelligence network plans. The event, co-hosted with the AI Network Alliance, introduced objectives, implementation steps and application schedules for six projects, and outlined plans for operating the alliance. NIA said the projects aim to build an ultra-intelligent network and strengthen 6G and AI network industry competitiveness.
