EU mandates driver face-monitoring cameras in new cars, raising privacy concerns
The European Union has made it mandatory for all new cars sold in the bloc to carry cameras that monitor a driver\'s face direction in real time to reduce drowsy driving and distraction-related crashes. The Advanced Driver Distraction Warning system tracks a driver’s gaze and triggers alerts when eyes leave the road for set periods. Critics cite frequent warnings in normal driving and say how video and gaze data are analysed, stored and deleted remains unclear, raising privacy concerns under EU rules.
