GCRB launches sixth panel, speeds shift of game ratings to private sector

The Game Culture Foundation has formed the sixth Games Content Rating Board (GCRB) panel and appointed Anyang University professor Seung-hoon Lee as chair. The new panel expands recommending bodies from eight to 16 and increases the share of experts in games, law and consumer protection, while lowering the average age to 44 from 54. GCRB plans a second-stage transfer of game ratings to the private sector in the second half, introducing mobile platforms and simplified reviews.

Coldcard hack renews debate over self-custody

A hack tied to a firmware flaw in Coldcard hardware wallets led to the theft of $88 million worth of bitcoin, rekindling a trust crisis across the crypto industry, U.Today reported on Aug. 3. Skeptics including Bruce Fenton called it a failure of self-custody. Early bitcoin developer Peter Todd countered that hardware wallet flaws are minor compared with systemic risks at centralized platforms, citing larger losses from exchange failures and arguing third-party key custody is the core risk.
