MSIT to push AI-core university program, select 10 new schools this year
South Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT said it has announced the 2026 AI-core university programme and will newly select 10 universities this year with support totalling 25.5 billion won. The programme aims to quickly establish and strengthen AI education systems using existing software education foundations, training both AI specialists and AI-enabled talent. It will expand to 30 universities by 2030, with selected schools eligible for up to eight years of annual support of 3 billion won.

Solana Labs CEO rejects Buterin-style blockchain self-reliance approach
Solana Labs CEO Anatoly Yakovenko has raised objections to Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin’s argument that a blockchain should be able to sustain itself with minimal developer involvement. Yakovenko said Solana would disappear if it did not evolve continuously and must keep changing without relying on any single group or individual. He also said static blockchains would lose out in competition and stressed automated development using AI.

Employment rate for people in their 20s falls for first time in 5 years, jobs also drop
South Korea’s employment rate for people in their 20s fell to 60.2 percent in 2025, down 0.8 percentage point from 2024, marking the first annual decline in five years. The number of employed people in that age group slid 170,000 to 3,442,000, extending a three-year streak of declines. The number classified as “resting” rose to 408,000, the highest in five years, and its share reached a record 7.1 percent.
