Waymo faces NTSB probe over illegal passing of stopped school buses

The U.S. National Transportation Safety Board has opened an investigation into Waymo robotaxis after repeated incidents of passing stopped school buses, TechCrunch reported on Thursday. The probe focuses on more than 20 alleged violations in Austin, Texas, with investigators sent to collect information. An initial report is due within 30 days and a final report in 12 to 24 months. The U.S. highway safety agency is also investigating.

Ring launches video tampering detection tool

Smart home security company Ring has launched a new tool, Ring Verify, to detect whether videos have been manipulated, Engadget reported on Thursday. From December 2025, all videos recorded on Ring cameras will carry a digital security seal that can confirm whether footage is original. Ring compared the system to a tamper-evident seal. The tool flags brightness changes or trimmed clips as unverifiable and can identify AI-generated fake Ring videos.

Apple to expand App Store ads from March, drawing developer backlash

Apple will significantly expand advertising in App Store search results from March, Engadget reported on Thursday. Apple said 65 percent of App Store downloads are made through search and that additional search ads will give advertisers more opportunities to drive downloads. Ads, previously shown only at the top of search results, are expected to also appear at the bottom. Some developers criticised the policy, Engadget reported.
