OpenAI will end its contract to supply AI models to AI coding service Cursor, The Information and others reported on Aug. 28 local time. SpaceX, led by Elon Musk, previously acquired Cursor for $60 billion.
As a result, existing OpenAI models will be fully removed from the Cursor platform on Nov. 12.
The decision appears to be reigniting a long-running conflict between OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Musk.
In a notice, OpenAI said it could not trust Musk-owned companies such as X and xAI because they had previously violated contracts. Musk has previously said he used OpenAI models to train xAI models.
Cursor co-founder Michael Truell (마이클 트루엘) wrote on X that OpenAI accounted for just 5 percent of Cursor's total traffic, but said, "I believed the Cursor platform would be neutral," expressing regret.
Anthropic co-founder Tom Brown (톰 브라운) said he would continue supplying the Claude model to Cursor.
