Daedong Robotics, Daedong Group's AI robot-focused affiliate, said on Feb. 26 it appointed Kang Sung-chul (강성철), currently a vice president at Daedong Mobility, as its new chief executive.
Kang is a robotics expert who has led robot development projects across industries including defence, healthcare, home appliances and manufacturing for 35 years at KIST and Samsung Electronics. He joined Daedong Mobility in April last year as vice president of its robot product division.
Along with the appointment, Kang will continue to concurrently serve as vice president of Daedong Mobility's product division, overseeing development and production. He plans to strengthen synergies across the group's robotics businesses by turning Daedong Mobility into a robot manufacturing foundry.
As part of efforts to increase corporate value, Daedong Robotics will continue to internalise robot AI technologies such as autonomous driving and autonomous work. It will also pursue next-generation robot development, including facility-use agricultural humanoids. The company also plans to expand strategic partnerships at home and abroad to strengthen its AI robotics cooperation capabilities, and aims to pursue Series A funding within the first quarter of 2026.
"Daedong's robotics business is moving beyond the technology verification stage and entering a full-fledged market growth phase," Kang said. "We will simultaneously push for revenue growth and a higher corporate value, and develop into a top company in field robot design, development and manufacturing within 5 years," he said.
