[DigitalToday reporter Ji-young Lee (이지영)] NHN KCP is joining hands with LINE NEXT to expand stablecoin-based payment services.
NHN KCP said on Wednesday it signed a business agreement with global Web3 platform company LINE NEXT to expand stablecoin-based payment services.
Under the agreement, the two companies plan to link the technology of LINE NEXT's global digital asset wallet, Unify, with NHN KCP's domestic merchant network and payment infrastructure.
They will first pursue a plan to apply the technology of LINE NEXT's stablecoin payment service, Unify Pay, to NHN KCP's payment window and offer it as a new payment method.
Once integration is completed, overseas users will be able to select Unify Pay when purchasing goods or services at NHN KCP merchants and pay with stablecoins held in their wallets.
Merchants will be able to use the existing NHN KCP payment environment without building a separate blockchain payment system or a digital wallet linkage setup themselves.
According to LINE NEXT, since 2025 more than 100 companies have adopted Unify wallet payments, and it is expanding support to stablecoins pegged to major fiat currencies such as the dollar.
The two companies will also review cooperation in preparation for the institutionalisation of won-pegged stablecoins. Once related laws, systems and licensing frameworks are in place, they also plan to discuss ways to allow stablecoins to be stored, transferred and used for payments in the Unify wallet.
NHN KCP plans to begin with the Unify Pay integration and then upgrade related systems from payment approval to cancellation, refunds and settlement. It also plans to expand its business scope to cross-border payments, digital asset distribution and global settlement depending on regulatory and market conditions.
An NHN KCP official said, "For stablecoins to take hold as an everyday means of payment, not only digital wallets and users but also merchants where they can actually be used and commerce infrastructure that can handle transactions end to end must be in place." The official added, "We will create new payment touchpoints by combining our domestic online and offline merchant network with LINE NEXT's global network."
