[Digital Today reporter Yoonseo Lee] Ripple issued additional RLUSD, its own stablecoin, on the XRP Ledger on Aug. 17 (local time).
The Crypto Basic, a blockchain media outlet, reported on Aug. 17 that the issuance took place in two rounds over about 5 hours, showing that RLUSD activity on the XRP Ledger, which had recently slowed, was picking up again.
According to community-based tracking platform RL Tracker, Ripple first issued $10 million worth of RLUSD that day, then minted an additional $20 million about 5 hours later.
Ripple showed a similar move on Aug. 14. It issued about $10 million worth of RLUSD, then issued an additional $20 million in less than 1 hour. As a result, newly issued RLUSD on the XRP Ledger since Aug. 14 rose to a total of $60 million.
The market interprets the move as more than a simple expansion of issuance. Over the same period, Ripple recorded no burns on the XRP Ledger but continued burning RLUSD on Ethereum. On Aug. 17, it issued the same amount on the XRP Ledger immediately after burning $10 million on Ethereum. It then burned an additional $5 million on Ethereum and issued another $20 million on the XRP Ledger a few hours later. This effectively confirmed a reshuffling of supply between networks.
Still, the net increase in supply over the past 30 days was larger on Ethereum. RL Tracker said total RLUSD supply currently stands at $1.731 billion. On Ethereum over the past 30 days, $379 million was issued and $176 million was burned, for a net increase of $203 million.
On the XRP Ledger, total issuance over the same period was higher at $409 million, but burns reached $412 million, resulting in a net increase of minus $3 million. The figure reflected large-scale burns in late July and mid-August. In particular, on Aug. 14, $110 million of RLUSD was issued on Ethereum, while burns totaled only $5 million.
Even so, the RLUSD balance is currently larger on the XRP Ledger than on Ethereum. Of the total supply of $1.731 billion, $879,499,000 is on the XRP Ledger and $851,518,000 is on Ethereum.
As a result, market attention is expected to focus on whether Ripple shifts the main axis of RLUSD supply back to the XRP Ledger or maintains the current structure alongside Ethereum. Based on recent issuance and burn records alone, Ripple is continuing to expand overall supply while adjusting RLUSD circulation between the two networks.
